ChatHealth is a secure and confidential text messaging service. It allows patients to easily and anonymously get in touch with a healthcare professional for advice and support.
It's a locally-offered service currently used by around 30 healthcare provider organisations across the UK. Search online to see if it's available in your area.
Who is it suitable for?
ChatHealth is for healthcare professionals and health service providers who want to be able to offer quick and confidential support to their patients.
It's typically used to provide advice about sensitive issues where patients might want to avoid a face to face appointment, such as:
- stress and anxiety
- alcohol and drugs
- sex, contraception and relationships
How do I access it?
Healthcare professionals and health service providers interested in using ChatHealth should email julie.jones@leics-HIS.nhs.uk. Patients and members of the public should not use this email address to try and access health advice or information as you will not get a response. Please contact your GP, or if you have an emergency, call 999 or visit your nearest Accident & Emergency department.
How does it work?
Text messages from patients are managed by staff using the ChatHealth web platform.
The platform can be used to respond to messages with information, advice or details of relevant services.
Texts are charged to patients at their normal network rate.
